Riviere du Rempart

Located in the north east of the island the Rivière du Rempart district is home to Cap Malheureux. This is a small fishing village that is very quiet and peaceful.
There is also a famous red roof chapel right on the beach and it is here many tourist couples to Mauritius choose to marry. The bay is shallow and sandy and the beach is as colorful and clear as ever.
Cap Malheureux or “Cape of Misfortune” got its name from the sheer number of ships were shipwrecked here over the centuries. It is also a place of great historical importance. It is here in 1810, that the British landed and marched towards Port Louis and forced the French to surrender the island.
If you are feeling very adventurous on your trip to this part of the island this is where Skydive Mauritius are located. There is no more exhilarating feeling than throwing yourself out of a perfectly good airplane at 13,000ft.
